Paul Weller: A Year Late

P. Weller wrote a wonderful song a few years back a year late, it’s a great example of his song writing skills. This song is written with an unusual rhythm part but none the less nice, what Paul does is pick the guitar strings from the chord inversions he plays, in doing so he is able to get a melody and a rhythm going at the same time which gives this song an interesting guitar sound.

The song has a very nice the string arrangement which beautifully gels in with the melody Weller sings. The story of the song is very meaningful, when he sings the last chorus he intensifies his guitar strumming and his voice and string section follows that, in fact its as though he is squeezing out every last note in his vocal box. I've written out the Lyrics.

A Year Late Lyrics
Something worn,like a blanket thrown
around your heart,your crystal spirit
Keeps me warm, and safe from harm
wrapped around my shoulder

I love to wake, and watch your face
and while you sleep,I fall for you again
Is it true, what I feel for you
Wish I could help it through
so you could feel it too

And the leaves around my door
and the sunlight in the hall
and darkness that will fall
make me want you more

Morning breaks,on the icy flakes
That collect around,our window
Its cold outside, brings a harsh goodbye
with clouds at our mouths,as we breath a sigh

As I look,like a long lending book
Page after page,we are turning
But,Is it true,what I feel for you
Wish I could help it through
So you could feel it too

and the leaves around my door
and the sunlight in the hall
And darkness that will fall
Just make me want you more
Oh make me want you more
Want you more.

Year Late another great P. Weller song.

Update: Many people who have heard of Weller do not know of this excellent song which he wrote but a year late is one of those songs which my opinion does not grow old in time. For me any artist who sells records should be able to preform as the song is on the record or better but certainly not make it sound worst.

Many of the artist who make records are unable to preform live, unlike P. Weller who plays songs like a year late better than it is on the b side of the single called Changingman which also had a great cover of the classic song called "I would rather go blind" and a nice live version of his song called "I didn't mean to hurt you" which is on the 1st solo P. Weller album.
